Adult Programs

Adult Religious Enrichment (ARE)

Our Adult RE program is a strong and vital component of our church.  The ARE team strives to create and offer classes that promote a healthy body, an inquiring mind, and a nurtured spirit.  We are always open to suggestions for classes or groups. We also welcome new members to our team!  Please contact Meg Walter if you are interested in either of these opportunities.

Classes and groups are offered throughout the week, both daytime and evenings. Some are one-time events, while others are series that last 2 to 10 weeks. There are nominal fees for some classes, but most events are free and many are open to just drop in.  All our classes are open to the public, and babysitting services may be available with advance notice.

For the body and general health we have offered classes including Yoga, Spirit Walks, and Ballroom Dance.  To expand our intellects we’ve had courses like Investing, Globalization, and Ending Corporate Dominance.  To nourish the spirit, we’ve addressed spiritual practices, including Spiritual Literacy, an Enneagram program, a Couples Workshop and several women’s retreats.

Our Northwest Earth Institute classes have been very popular and well-attended, including Voluntary Simplicity, Healthy Children/Healthy Planet and many others. We try to offer UUA curriculum a few times each year. In the past we have offered Build Your Own Theology and Understanding the Bible to name just a few.  Adult OWL is still on-deck to begin in the near future.

We have also wandered off site to visit the Bilal Mosque in Beaverton, and to enjoy a labyrinth workshop at Trinity Episcopal Church, and numerous women’s retreats at various sites.

The ARE team has also initiated the growth of ongoing groups that became independent of our support, including a friday evening Film Forum and the Arts & Crafts Fellowship.

Class leaders and facilitators have been mainly church members. We are grateful to have so many individuals who acknowledge the importance of lifelong learning and are willing to give their time and expertise to leadership.
