1/4-time Music Director

The Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Washington County is seeking a part-time Music Director beginning October 2022. The church is in the Orenco area of Hillsboro, OR within walking distance from the Orenco Max train stop.

The position is hourly, averaging ten hours per week. The hourly rate is based upon experience. This time covers Choir rehearsals on Thursday evenings (approx. 1.5 hours); an occasional live service rehearsal on Saturday morning (approx. 1.5 hours), and a Sunday morning service (1.5–2 hours). The additional time will be used for the following:

  • Coordination with congregational vocalists, accompanists, and musicians who provide service music when the Choir does not perform
  • Participation in weekly Staff Meetings (1.5-2 hours per week)
  • Planning and coordination on Worship Services with the Supervisor and the Worship Team (two 2-hour meetings per month)
  •  Oversight of music used to ensure compliance with copyright rules

Depending on public health concerns, practices or services may be delivered over Zoom, so access to a computer [and piano] are needed.
An appropriate microphone will be provided, if needed. Facility with technology is highly desired.

1/4-time Pianist Wanted

The Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Washington County is seeking a part-time accompanist beginning in October 2022. The church is in the Orenco area of Hillsboro, OR within walking distance of the Orenco Max train stop.

The position is hourly, averaging ten hours per week. The hourly rate is based upon experience. This time covers a choir rehearsal on Thursday evenings (approx. 1.5 hours); an occasional live service rehearsal on Saturday morning (approx. 1.5
hours), and a Sunday morning service (1.5–2 hours). The additional hours cover practice time and occasional special music presentations.

Depending on public health concerns, the practices or services may be delivered over Zoom, so access to a computer and piano are needed. An appropriate microphone will be provided. The ability to record some of the music is highly desirable.

The successful applicant will be able to play, with appropriate musicality, choral warm-ups, choral music, hymns, and a variety of classical and public domain music. On time participation and a can-do attitude are a necessity.
