Reclaiming the Shadow

Kathleen LaFlamme and the UUCCWC Choir

Each of us has a “shadow” side; a mirror-image self made of traits we aren’t proud of and don’t express.  Carl Jung described the shadow as “the thing one has no wish to be.”  Understanding our shadows– the things we don’t want to be – can help us understand ourselves and our deepest values.  What gifts do our shadows contain, and how can we reclaim them?

Kathleen LaFlamme has been a member of this church since 2014.  She is a member of the volunteer Worship Team and an active member of the church’s CUUPS group (Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans).  Her interest in shadow work goes back as long as she can remember.  When she’s not at church, she works as a technical writer and moonlights as a costume designer and seamstress.  She is also an open water swimmer of mediocre skill and unimpressive accomplishment.
