In February each year, congregations celebrate the hard work of their youth who are involved in Scouting programs. Come sit at our “campfire” to hear about parallels between Scouting and our UU values, the relationship between the Boy Scouts of America and the UUA, and our families’ personal Scouting experiences. We’ll hear about the struggles that pushed the BSA to become an inclusive and safe place for all youth to learn and thrive.
Josh Steinhurst and Chris Watkins were active Scouts in their youth as well as Scout leaders for their own children. Josh cofounded Susquehanna Boy Scout Equality in 2013, around the time he became a UU, and has been a dedicated Scout leader since his daughter Ruth joined Scouts in 2018. Chris helped lead his son Ben’s Cub Scout pack in the mid-2010s. He and Lauri Watkins, who have been UUCCWC members since 2017, continue to support Ben’s scouting experience.
