This is a sassy quote I have hanging in my kitchen. The sentiment is expressed a bit more eloquently by Thich Nhat Hanh: “If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people.”
For most of us, our first helpers, healers, and heroes were our parents and other family members. And sometimes they weren’t so helpful. We will use Buddhist concepts to explore our relationships with our ancestors, particularly our parents, in an effort to understand who we have been, who we are, and who we aspire to be.
