Heroes rarely complete their heroic tasks or missions by themselves. They are met at literal or psychological crossroads by mentors, teachers, and guides. In ancient mythology, the mentor was an older, wise figure who possessed great wisdom. In our modern mythologies – movies, fairy tales, and cultural scripts – the face at the crossroads may be a whimsical pixie-like human; a disabled veteran; a hardened, no-nonsense career professional; or someone like…you. This week, we will explore these crossroads figures and their roles in the hero’s journeys of our time.
