March 8 is International Women’s Day. It’s a good time to honor the lives and accomplishments of women – and to examine what being a “woman” means. The words used by different cultures to describe women tell us a lot about how female identity is valued (or not). These words also tell us how specific duties and responsibilities are linked to gender – but they don’t have to be! Come hear how we can use words to lift up women everywhere.
Annmarie is an artist, educator and a community organizer from Washington, DC who is currently the first ever non-Christian MDiv student at the Episcopal Virginia Theological Seminary and graduates in May. Annmarie keeps busy outside of school by working at a nonprofit, facilitating classes for adults who have never ridden a bike before.
